The Haliburton Highlands Genealogy Group was founded in 1990, in response to a project of the Ontario Genealogy Society. The OGS sought the assistance of local genealogists in preparing a single province-wide index to the information recorded on all cemetery headstones in Ontario.
In the process of gathering headstone inscriptions from the Haliburton region, the nucleus of this group interested in local family history and genealogy was born.
Our goals and objectives are to:
-
Gather and preserve information, articles, books, manuscripts and maps relevant to Haliburton County genealogical studies and to make them available to our members.
-
Collect family histories, facts and stories of early pioneers of Haliburton County.
-
Discuss personal research progress, problems and hurdles with our members.
-
Assist and guide our members in their research to the best of our ability.
-
Encourage interest and membership in HHGG through local events.
-
Socialize with persons who have a common interest in genealogy.
-
Participate and encourage interest in other genealogical and historical events.
-
Publish a magazine as a means of communication with our non-local members.
-
Try to make every HHGG meeting a fun-filled and informative gathering.
-
Collect genealogical data for publication and research purposes.
